@eylul oh yeah, colouring pencils are a criminally underrated medium.

Damage from tape is pretty common. Supossedly water-color masking tape doesn't do this, but I could never understand how to apply it properly.

so this looks good on camera but unfortunately had a lot of damage from the washi tape. Still good for prints though

on positive side though what I can do with these pencils will give me so many options....

Seems there's a misconception of .art doing the rounds, so let me clear that up!

We're an art instance, but we *do not* expect or enforce our users to only post their artwork here - it's actually very much the opposite!

The Fediverse is a community, and .art is a community. We like knowing each other on that communal level. We like seeing what artists do when they're not creating art; snippets from each other's daily lives, pet photos, side projects. We're here to find new friends.

this time working properly with my new artist quality pencils. if I can figure out how to paint an even background these might begin to replace copics (as it is they are augmenting them)

This is one of the most spectacular sunsets I ever saw while working at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile.

The Atacama Desert is extremely dry, but clouds do show up sometimes. That day there were several dark clouds releasing very light rain that vaporised before reaching the ground. These wispy veils (called "virga") were lit by the golden sunset light, creating a lovely contrast with the blue sky above.

I'm seeing fewer captioned images lately. Please caption?

masto/fedi advice for artists

one thing that is different here than commercial places you might be used to is that metrics doesn't matter. interactions do.

boost other people's work (or reply to them) engage in meaningful conversations.

the less you treat this place as a broadcast medium and more as a communication platform, the more you will enjoy the fediverse.

hope this helps

Just a tiny test using black colored paper I recently got, with gel pens and pencils, with also gold. Just practicing with pencils a bit.

it is good to try new things.

( : for editing, I am updating my process to photograph finished work. work in progress)

IIt's important to note that Masto (and the fediverse) is not an 'alternative Twitter'. It's an entirely different platform that has its own unique culture. We don't chase likes or follows or popularity, we don't present as brands or 'personalities'. We care about each others' personal lives and wholesome engagement on a more individual level.

If you're going to use a Masto to Twitter crossposter, please keep this in mind, and ideally, cross post from here to there, and not there to here.

artist problems - personal

I also seem to have an issue with my breaks tonight.

I managed to stop working on the canvas, but now doing mini drawings with my colored pencils.

I am tired, I can tell I am tired but keeping going.

this is still very

also the original is definitely more magenta than red.

This painting hides a secret, which is the reason for some of the technical and choices. Can you guess?
